Support New Mexico’s 2024 GO Bond for Libraries – Vote YES!

New Mexico voters have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of their libraries in November 2024 by voting YES on GO Bond 2.

This critical funding measure is part of the 2024 Capital Projects General Obligation Bond Act and will provide approximately $19 million for public, school, academic, and tribal libraries across the state.

Here’s why your vote matters:

  • $6 million will go toward higher education libraries and acquisitions for public, school, and academic libraries.
  • $6 million will support the Cultural Affairs Department for non-tribal public libraries.
  • $6 million will be allocated to the Public Education Department.
  • $1 million will specifically aid tribal libraries.

This bond funding will help libraries acquire much-needed books, ebooks, digital resources, and other materials to support their communities. GO Bond proceeds are essential for these libraries, supplementing local funding and ensuring access to valuable resources, especially in marginalized communities.

However, libraries are facing growing challenges, including rising costs, inflation, and shrinking public funding. Without the GO Bond, many libraries would struggle to meet the needs of their patrons.

A new report from the EveryLibrary Institute highlights the critical role GO Bonds play in supporting New Mexico’s libraries. Over time, these funds have shrunk due to inflation, and today’s bond proceeds only cover 40% of the resources they did in 2002.

By voting YES on GO Bond 2, you can help ensure that libraries across New Mexico continue to thrive, offering vital educational and social support to children and adults alike.

Make your voice heard this November – support your local libraries by voting YES for GO Bond 2!
