Why Banned Books Week Matters
This week is all about celebrating our freedom to read and the incredible books that have faced challenges and bans.
It’s a chance to remind ourselves why diverse perspectives in literature are so crucial.
Books often get challenged because they touch on tough topics or present new viewpoints, and by celebrating Banned Books Week, we’re standing up for the right to access these voices.
How Voting Ties In
Here’s where it gets really important: our ability to read freely is connected to our democratic processes.
Voting in the 2024 elections is a powerful way to protect our freedoms.
The people we elect have a big say in policies that affect libraries and our freedom of expression.
Many elected leaders are fighting to ban books and restrict your freedom to read. That's why we conducted candidate surveys in Delaware, Massachusetts, and Texas, with many more states planned.
There are also a number of statewide ballot measures that impact libraries in states like Utah, North Dakota, Kentucky, and California.
